Our organization was founded on a simple but powerful belief: every individual deserves access to the resources, support, and opportunities needed to live a fulfilling life. Since 1988, we have worked alongside individuals with disabilities, families, caregivers, and community partners to promote independence, inclusion, and self-advocacy.
As our organization has grown, so has our impact. Through expanded programs, community partnerships, and dedicated support services, we continue to help build more accessible communities and create opportunities for people of all abilities to thrive.
Designated as corporate plaintiff, along with hundreds of advocates to establish home and community services within Louisiana through the Barthelemy vs. Louisiana Dept of Health and Hospitals lawsuit.
Instrumental in establishment of the Louisiana Statewide Independent Living Council which opened the opportunities for the disability community to sit on various councils and boards
Signed off on the Barthelemy lawsuit settlement which launched nursing home transition program through home and community-based services for 100s of individuals state-wide. Also, our assistive technology demonstration center was visited by Troy Justesen (Assistant Secretary for U.S. Department of Education for Vocational Adult Education)
Collaborated with several community partners (local, state and federal) to respond to Hurricane Katrina devastation. Testified in the U.S. Ways and Means Committee regarding the impact the disabled community had to endure due to the breakdown of several infrastructure.
Transitioned over 100 unhoused, disabled persons into supported housing through ACT 378 funds.
Partnered with City of New Orleans to host accessible seating for Mardi Gras.
Opened a community health clinic to bridge the gap between social services and medical needs.
Expanded virtual services and online accessibility to address the challenges in response to COVID-19
